This week, the movie “Dogma” was on German TV. I love this movie for various reasons – weird characters, totally crazy storyline, funny dialogues, and what’s not to like about a movie in which Alanis Morissette plays God? And there’s another thing that makes it worth watching: Janeane Garofalo.

I don’t remember when I first saw her or started to like her, but it’s a fact that there was a time when I totally digged her. I even sat through “Mystery Men”, just because she was in it. And of course, there was this hope that maybe, just maybe, she’s one of us. Somehow, I must have gotten that impression when she guest starred on “Ellen” and had such an amazing chemistry with her that even me – then still very naive and oblivious to my own chemistry with other women – thought that there was more between those two then just friendship. (I wasn’t the only one, as one of the producers of the show told Time Magazine in 1997: “There wasn’t supposed to be a lesbian thing at all, but afterward we were watching the tape and we were like, ‘Whoa!’”) Still, she’s said a couple of times that – even though a lot of people think that she’s gay because she looks kinda gay – she isn’t. *sigh*

So, after being reminded of Janeane by “Dogma”, I decided to watch another one of her movies again last night, “The MatchMaker”. Not the best movie, but still kind of cute and with great pictures of Ireland.

Why am I telling you all this? Because sometimes, I wonder about the funny coincidences in life. Because the same week in which I rediscover Janeane Garofalo, she was also a guest on Keith Olberman’s show “Countdown”, which I only found out today. Way too much tattoos for my taste, but witty and sarcastic as ever.

Well, she’s still definitely worth going for that toaster oven. Maybe I can even get myself to watch 24 – if only for her…
