What a Difference a Year Makes – mels blog turns 1!
I don’t know if anyone noticed it, but “melsblog” celebrated it’s first birthday last week. Not that I didn’t blog before – I very much did here and here -, but the website like it is now, with both German and English posts consolidated under one domain and with a magazine-style layout, wasn’t launched until July 31, 2009.
A lot has happened in this year. “Starla” got together, managed to stay together against all odds, and were last seen on their way to the Niagara Falls to get married there.
Callie and Arizona intensified their relationship and were even allowed to make out in front of the camera.
Juliette first seduced Kerstin with her chocolates and then made her move to France with her.
You voted for the most enchanting German women. The Winter Olympics, lesbians in Wisteria Lane, Naomily, there were so many topics to write about, and luckily, there are so many people who were and still are interested in reading about them.
I intended to refresh the website for its birthday, maybe give it a new layout and especially tidy it up a little. It’s amazing how many tags, categories and links I created over time that are actually useless. But as it is often the case, especially when you do something as a hobby in your spare time: I just didn’t get around to do it.
But that doesn’t mean that it won’t happen. I’m definitely going to clean up around here, and maybe work on the layout. A new logo, a new header, a new tagline – whatever I feel like changing whenever I find the time.
Another change that will happen contentwise and that my international readers will have to get used to is that there will be more articles in German rather than in English. I realized that most of the topics I wrote about in the recent months have also been addressed by websites who always write in English, like AfterEllen, SheWired and eurOut, but that there weren’t many German articles, if at all, and that’s what I would like to change.
As I don’t want to alienate or even lose my international readers, and as I also want my friends from all over the world to be able to read at least part of my blog, there will of course still also be articles in English, especially when it comes to German TV shows and German movies. So don’t worry – if there are any “Starla” or “Keriette” news, or if there’s a new couple on a German TV show, you will be able to read about it here in English.
If Bärbel ever figures out whether she’s a lesbian or not on “Mord mit Aussicht”,
you will read about it here, in English
In addition to writing more German texts, I intend to also broaden the spectrum of topics that I want to write about, not just lesbian entertainment, but entertainment and the media in general. Of course, there will still be more than enough articles about lesbian women, lesbian movies and lesbian storylines on TV shows, but not every article will be lesbian-specific. Needless to say, the vast majority of articles will still and always feature enchanting women.
So those are the plans for the second year of “melsblog”. Thank you for all your support so far, and I can’t wait to see where we – this website, you the readers, and I – will stand next year.

Obwohl ich mich über das “eine Jahr” auch gerade etwas gewundert habe, denn ich war der Überzeugung, dass ich Deinen Blog schon länger lese ! ^^
An dieser Stelle darf ich ja nun auch mal “schleimen” – nein, ich meine es ernst: Ich schätze die Arbeit, die Du Dir mit diesem Blog machst – und ich denke, die Meisten LeserInnen tun dies auch – ganz besonders die Mühe, das alles beinah zweisprachig aufzuziehen, obwohl ich mich über einen geplanten stärkeren Schwerpunkt in Deutsch sehr freue !
Du schreibst toll, Dein Blog hat ein absolut schönes und klares Design und ich kann Dir garantieren, dass ich (und sicher einige andere) in jedem Beitrag noch etwas neues erfahren – Deinem Gaydar sei Dank!
Ich hoffe, dass Du die Lust ja nicht so schnell verlieren wirst und wir Dich noch lange lesen !

Vielen lieben Dank für diesen tollen Kommentar, da werde ich fast ein bißchen rot. Und gerade von dir als Blog-Expertin ein Kompliment für das Design zu bekommen freut mich ganz besonders.

Bei so viel tollem Zuspruch kann ich ja gar nicht anders, als noch ganz lange weiterzumachen. Zum Glück macht es mir immer noch Spaß, und das obwohl ich schon 10 Jahre mit verschiedenen Seiten online bin. Vielleicht kommt es dir auch deshalb so vor, als gäb’s den Blog schon viel länger, weil es da den ein oder anderen Vorgänger gab.
Die Entscheidung für den deutschen Schwerpunkt war gar nicht so leicht, auch weil es mit englischen Texten viel einfacher ist, auf das “Radar” größerer Webseiten wie z.B. AfterEllen zu gelangen und von denen auch mal einen Link gesetzt und damit gleich einen ganzen Schwung von Zugriffen zu bekommen. Deshalb habe ich mich auch sehr über den Steckbrief bei der Mädchenmannschaft gefreut. Und letztlich kommt dann doch der überwiegende Teil der BesucherInnen aus Deutschland, und denen möchte ich einfach etwas anbieten, das sie auf anderen Seiten eben nicht finden, nämlich News und Infos auf Deutsch. Und vielleicht werden dann ja auch ein paar mehr deutsche LeserInnen mal zum kommentieren animiert.
Ohja, KOMMENTIEREN sollen sie alle mal schön !
