No More Sunday Nights With Anne
Anne Will has to move her talk show to a new time slot to make room for veteran TV host Günther Jauch.
Is probably not very pleased at the moment: Anne Will
ARD, Germany’s public broadcasting system, announced today that veteran TV host Günther Jauch will take over Anne Will’s time slot on Sunday nights in the fall of 2011. Her politcal talk show “Anne Will” is supposed to stay on the air, but will be moved to a weeknight – that is, if Anne Will agrees.
A spokeswoman for Anne Will’s production company told German news magazine “Spiegel Online” that NDR, the regional public broadcasting services that is in charge of “Anne Will”, intends to offer the show an alternative time slot, but that no decision will be made before the end of the current summer hiatus.
Out journalist Anne Will took over the prestigious time slot on Sunday nights following “Tatort”, one of Germany’s most successful crime dramas, from former newscaster and talk show host Sabine Christiansen in the fall of 2007. After inital criticism regarding the show’s concept and ratings even from ARD executives, the show has by now found its audience and the ratings are solid. Only last month, Anne Will told German newspaper “Süddeutsche Zeitung” that the show was “lans Schmitz-Backes”, which is an expression from her home town of Cologne and means that the worst part is over.
Today’s annoucement comes as a surprise especially since ARD had offerend the Sunday night time slot to Günther Jauch back in 2007. Back then, Jauch – who will continue to host the successful German version of “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire” on TV channel RTL – apparently declined the offer because ARD wanted him to work for them exclusively.
Now, I’m usually not someone who promptly screams “foul” when a man is being favored over a woman, or who quickly alleges people of sexism. Still, I couldn’t help being majorly annoyed by today’s annoucement. Leaving her high-profile job as news anchor on one of Germany’s most popular news programs to replace Sabine Christiansen, whose political talk show “Christiansen” was hugely successful, was a considerable risk, but Anne Will was willing to take it, and she made the show work. Having to make room now for someone who initally did not even want the job is a slap in her face, and I cannot help but wonder whether the decision makers at ARD would have done this to a man.
The only thing that is consoling, if only a little bit, is that there are no indications that today’s decision had anything to do with Anne Will’s sexuality. But that’s only a very, very cold comfort.

ich finde es schlichtweg zum k… wie man hier mit anne will umgeht. erst informiert man sie nicht … und diese floskel, “man werde nach einem neuen sendeplatz suchen” – wenn das nicht so ein trauerspiel wäre, würde ich lachen. ich persönlich bezeichne dies, als armutszeugnis der ard.
Pitiful! I can only hope this announcement is a polite way of offering Frau Will something even better and in difference to Herr Jauch they announced his plans first. – “Age Before Beauty” is an old saying. I’m an cautiously optimistic.
Endlich mal Fläche zum ausk+++ über dieses Thema…Abgesehen davon, dass ich Anne einen besseren Sender wünschen würde, bin ich der Meinung, dass Günni der Nation schon bald ziemlich auf den Senkel gehen wird. In der “Zeit” hat mal ein Journalist was über das “Nasenfernsehen” geschrieben (Fernsehen wird nur noch von wenigen Nasen gemacht). Damit hat er Recht -Stefan Raab ist auch so eine Nase – aber eine Nase, die man auch mal phasenweise nicht sieht. Günther Jauch geht einem wirklich 365 Tage rund um die Uhr auf den Keks – WWM, Fußball-Moderationen, diverse RTl-Lückenfüllersendungen, SternTV, Grinsebacke auf diversen Magazinen und nun noch in die ARD auf den Sonntags-Olymp, gehoben von vorerst beschimpften Gremlins, lässt er sich nun natürlich gern hofieren.
Der ARD wünsche ich, dass sie sich mit der Aktion selbst ein Bein stellen werden. Hätte RTL doch nur eine etwas “andere” Zielgruppe, dann würde ich Anne dort direkt eine Show gönnen
Das wäre dann wie im Schach “Dame schlägt Springer”.

“Nasenfernsehen” – sehr schöne Bezeichnung, und ziemlich treffend.
Ich glaube nicht, dass die ARD sich mit diesem “Coup” tatsächlich einen Gefallen getan hat, auch weil ich mir nicht vorstellen kann, dass die deutschen Fernsehzuschauer den Jauch wirklich ewig und überall ertragen können. Besser hätte ich es gefunden, mit Anne Will & Co. so weiter zu machen wie bisher und das ganze Geld, dass Herrn Jauch mit Sicherheit bezahlt werden muss, lieber in die Ausbildung und Förderung jüngerer Moderatoren und Journalisten zu stecken. Aber leider leider werden die Zuschauer ja nicht gefragt – und das obwohl es schließlich UNSER Geld ist.
Ha, sehr guter Punkt ! Da bin ich ganz Deiner Meinung – die Förderung junger Moderatoren und Journalisten – wie es bei Anne Will ja einst der Fall war – wäre mir von den Millionen, die da fließen werden, auch deutlich lieber, als Günther Jauchs Retortengrinsen bei der ARD zu finanzieren.
Vermutlich werden die Einschaltquoten bei Jauch@ARD in den ersten Wochen horrend sein – an dauerhaften großen Erfolg glaube ich jedoch nicht – das Publikum und die Zielgruppe für “Polittalks” wird sich nicht automatisch vermehren, nur weil Herr Jauch da nun sitzt und ich glaube kaum, dass viel eingefleischtes RTL-Publikum plötzlich zur ARD abwandern wird. Noch hinzu kommt mein SternTV-Eindruck: ohne große Stories ist auch ein Jauch als Moderator stinkelangweilig.
