The Most Enchanting German Women 2010

6.4. Meike Schlüter

It’s a little surprising that a woman who isn’t on television at the moment and who is mostly identified with one single role she played 6 years ago made it onto this list at all, but it only goes to show what a huge and lasting impression the character of Kerstin Herzog on “Hinter Gittern” (”Behind Bars”) and the way actress Meike Schlüter portrayed her made on German TV viewers.

And she initially wasn’t even the most likeable character, but rather bitchy and not very nice to her fellow inmate Sascha, who she would later fall in love with. But Meike Schlüter managed to win the audience over with showing not only the external, but also the internal struggles Kerstin Herzog had to go through – suddenly finding herself in prison for a murder she didn’t commit, falling in love with someone who is not only a woman, but also a convicted murderer, and eventually having to risk everything to be with the woman she loves.

After leaving Hinter Gittern in 2004, Meike Schlüter went on to play smaller parts in various feature and short films before returning to TV in 2005 for a guest role on the German Telenovela “Wege zum Glück”. She reprised that role in 2006 and 2008, and in 2008 also had a part on the short-lived comedy show “Volles Haus”. Unfortunately, it is not likely that she will return to TV anytime soon. According to a post on a “Hinter Gittern” fan message board, Meike has given up acting and now works for a publishing company in Berlin. Besides, judging from this picture on Facebook that was taken last summer, it looks like she is probably busy with taking care of a little Schlüter at the moment…

  1. WOW! Your readers got a real good taste, MeL! I feel that the inspiration for another video dedicated only to the 12 winning ladys is coming to my mind. ;) I’m a little bit proud that Meike Schlüter is still in the mind of people ’round here or maybe my little interference with a few pictures of her in the video worked. ;)

Btw thank you for considering my little slideshow video the must see of the week, I am really flattered!

When I get my computer back (hopefully tomorrow) I will start to work on the winning ladys video. The power supply was damaged and that ruined also my hard disc drive. Luckily I saved most of the data on an external drive, so I should be able to begin right then, when the repair is done.
