The Women of “Tatort”

Charlotte Lindholm (Maria Furtwängler)

charlottelindholm_1

Like most people from the norther part of Germany, Charlotte Lindholm seems cool and distant at first, an impression that is being backed up by the matter-of-fact manner in which she approaches her cases but that helps her when it comes to doing her job. As an investigator for the Land Office of Criminal Investigation (LKA) in Lower-Saxony, a lot of her cases lead her to the countryside, where the people are very much like her.

But there’s also a different side to Charlotte. After losing her boyfriend Tobias, who was hit by a bullet that was meant for Charlotte, she had a brief affair with a married man and got pregnant. She is now raising her son David with the help of her best friend and roommate Martin, an author for detective stories, and her mother.

Inga Lürsen (Sabine Postel)

Inga Lürsen is a divorced mother of one and policewoman through and through. Far from being the motherly type, Inga is not always easy to get along with, a fact that her assistant Stedefreund can tell a thing or two about. Still, they make a very good team and always have each other’s back. Even though she is very committed to her job, Inga is not happy when her daughter Helen decides to join the police as well, and the relationship between mother and daughter is put to the test more than once.

Dr. Frieda Jung (Maren Eggert)

As a psychologist, Frieda Jung is used to dealing with people with a difficult personality. That’s probably why she seems to be the only one to get along with the grumpiness of inspector Klaus Borowski. First as a therapist and later as a counselor, she helps Borowski to solve his cases, and with her calm manner and her keen wit, she brushes him off more than once, even though both of them soon realize that they are in fact attracted to each other.

Klara Blum (Eva Mattes)

klarablum_1

Unlike some of her female colleagues, Klara Blum is not the tough type, but seems rather warm and sympathetic, an attitude that some people mistake for weakness and that tends to drive her assistant Kai Perlmann crazy. A few years ago, Klara lost her husband, who was also a policeman and shot while they were  trying to solve a murder together. She now lives alone in her house at the Lake Constance, but seems to have opened up to a little flirting here and there.

Eva Saalfeld (Simone Thomalla)

Eva Saalfeld was born and grew up in Leipzig where she is now still living and solving crimes. Her father was a policeman, too, and she was even married to one, but the marriage failed after they lost their child. Eva and her ex Andreas Keppler still get along, which is a necessity because they now work together. Eva is strong and can stand her ground, which she proves in a very impressive manner when she has to deal with an abusive man who beat both his wife and his daughter. But Eva also has moments of weakness, in which she turns to her mother for comfort.

Charlotte Sänger (Andrea Sawatzki)

Charlotte Sänger is smart and beautiful and seems distant at first. She started out solving business crimes before she transfered to the murder squad to work with her partner Fritz Dellwo. During one of her first murder investigations, her own parents fell victim to the murderer. Not able to let go, she keeps living in the house she shared with her parents, but is glad when Dellwo, after losing his own apartment, decides to move into her parents’ apartment.
