MeL's News of the Week: Ellen & Portia are hot, Monica Bleibtreu passes away
This week’s lesbian entertainment news were dominated by power couple Portia de Rossi and Ellen DeGeneres. Plus, some sad news from Germany.

2009 AfterEllen Hot 100 On Monday, AfterEllen.com released their annual “Hot 100″ list. This year, AE readers chose Portia de Rossi to be the hottest woman in the world, placing her on top of the list, followed by Jennifer Beals (“Flashdance”, “The L Word”) and British actress Lena Headey (“Imagine Me & You”, “Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles”). Portia’s wife Ellen DeGeneres came in on No. 15, making them the hottest couple on the list.
2009 Daytime Emmy Awards nominations On Thursday, “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” received 12 Daytime Emmy nominations, including “Outstanding Talk Show” and “Outstanding Talk Show Host”. The awards ceremony will take place on August 30th.
ABC renews Better Off Ted On Friday, word got out that TV network ABC renewed Portia’s show “Better Off Ted” for another season.
Ellen returns home And finally yesterday (May 16th), Ellen spoke at the Commencement ceremony at Tulane University in her hometown New Orleans and was presented with the Tulane University President’s Medal for her work to raise money and awareness for New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. An amateur video of the hilarious speech is available on YouTube.
R.I.P. Monica Bleibtreu Renowned German theatre and movie actress Monica Bleibtreu passed away this week from cancer. The mother of German movie star Moritz Bleibtreu (“Run Lola Run”, “The Baader Meinhof Complex”) became well-known in recent years for taking on complex roles, like the one of a dying cancer patient who insists on spending her last days on her farm in the Bavarian mountains rather than in a hospital bed in “Marias letzte Reise”, or the 80-year-old lesbian piano teacher who struggles with her past in “Vier Minuten”, a role for which she received Germany’s highest movie award, the “Deutsche Filmpreis”. Monica Bleibtreu was 65.

Good job. I agree with you, Ellen and Portia are HOT, but we didn’t need a “survey” to tell us that.
I am honored to be mentioned in your tweets.
Thank you.
I’m sorry to hear that Monica B passed away. The movie about a piano teacher sounds very interesting.
