Rest in peace, "Resi Berghammer"

Over the weekend, while doing some research for the latest edition of “MeL’s Point”, I came across this picture of actress Ruth Drexel as “banker” Adele Spitzeder:

I remember how surprised I was to see her that young, because like most Germans outside of Bavaria, I didn’t get to know Ruth Drexel until 1995, when the TV series “Der Bulle von Tölz” started on German TV. In this show about an overweight police inspector who solves crimes in the Bavarian city of Bad Tölz while still living with his mother, Ruth Drexel played said mother, Resi Berghammer, who runs a small boarding house, tries everything to find a wife for her son and more than once interferes with his investigations. The dynamic between mother and son was one of the reasons why the series became so successful and also why I liked it so much.

It was announced yesterday that Ruth Drexel, who apart from being an actress both on TV and theater also worked as a director and theater manager, passed away last week at age 78. As the producers of the TV series said in a statement, this will also mean the end of “Der Bulle von Tölz”, because to do this series without Ruth Drexel would be unimaginable.

  1. I am glad to read what you have written, this week. Going on vacation seems to be “working for you”.

I am saddened to read about this actress, died. It seems that she had a very full life.
