Welcome to my "Janeane Garofalo" week…
This week, the movie “Dogma” was on German TV. I love this movie for various reasons – weird characters, totally crazy storyline, funny dialogues, and what’s not to like about a movie in which Alanis Morissette plays God? And there’s another thing that makes it worth watching: Janeane Garofalo.

I don’t remember when I first saw her or started to like her, but it’s a fact that there was a time when I totally digged her. I even sat through “Mystery Men”, just because she was in it. And of course, there was this hope that maybe, just maybe, she’s one of us. Somehow, I must have gotten that impression when she guest starred on “Ellen” and had such an amazing chemistry with her that even me – then still very naive and oblivious to my own chemistry with other women – thought that there was more between those two then just friendship. (I wasn’t the only one, as one of the producers of the show told Time Magazine in 1997: “There wasn’t supposed to be a lesbian thing at all, but afterward we were watching the tape and we were like, ‘Whoa!’”) Still, she’s said a couple of times that – even though a lot of people think that she’s gay because she looks kinda gay – she isn’t. *sigh*

So, after being reminded of Janeane by “Dogma”, I decided to watch another one of her movies again last night, “The MatchMaker”. Not the best movie, but still kind of cute and with great pictures of Ireland.
Why am I telling you all this? Because sometimes, I wonder about the funny coincidences in life. Because the same week in which I rediscover Janeane Garofalo, she was also a guest on Keith Olberman’s show “Countdown”, which I only found out today. Way too much tattoos for my taste, but witty and sarcastic as ever.

Well, she’s still definitely worth going for that toaster oven. Maybe I can even get myself to watch 24 – if only for her…

I think I am finally, sort of understanding the ‘toaster oven’ joke. I know that it is a ‘Ellen’ joke but I keep wanting to “read” more into it. Something like, if you share a “meal” with a straight woman, and she likes the “meal” then the GLBT “recuting police” give her a toaster oven (as a welcome to your new awakening) gift.
Personally, I’ve had a toaster over for almost twelve years. LOL
Speaking of watching t.v. just to watch who’s hosting:
I’ve been watching Rachel Maddow and LOVING it!!!! She makes watching the news exciting; and not only because she’s pretty, but also for her wit.
Have fun on vacation. “hang ten” lol
Kate B.
She’s hot
@Kate: I haven’t found out yet whether the toaster oven joke was there before “The Puppy Episode” and they just used it, or if it really was created by Ellen and her team. So far, I couldn’t find anyone who knew it before “Ellen”, so they probably created it. But I guess by now, EVERYBODY knows it.
